Anger can be helpful. It can move us into action. Like all emotions, it’s healthy to let ourselves feel it, not squash it down. But what about the anger that doesn’t go away? Staying mad doesn’t serve us, and it can be toxic to hang on to anger.
So what can we do?
In this episode I talk through my process for releasing anger and moving forward.
You can just listen – or, if you’re experiencing this situation right now, you could treat this episode as a mini coaching session. Do the process I outline, pause when needed, and work through it, journalling, reflecting, shifting.
Listen to the whole episode to hear my favourite mantra for releasing anger.
You can use this process on yourself, and on others:
Step 1: Ask yourself why you’re still holding on to this anger.
Step 2: If you hold on to this anger, are you likely to get the good outcomes you are looking for?
Step 3: What is it costing you to hold on to this anger?
Step 4: What would you like to happen going forward – and why?
Step 5: Accept what is and what has happened. State the facts.
Step 6: What is it that you’re really longing for in this situation?
Step 7: What’s the next step you can take to make that happen? (it might not be what you think – and sometimes what happens next is a little bit of magic!)
